The message refers to an operation in the program source not to a file, so it makes not difference whether you're root or not. > I'm a bit confused here. I cannot see where I go wrong. I tried getting the modem to work a month or so ago to find out that the hcfusbmodem-driver doesn't support 2.6[1]. Michael said it would work but might cause kernel data to be corrupted (which is something you _don't_ want and which is something that is far from being stable and usable). I ended up booting 2.4 when I wanted to use the modem. Also note that AFAIK the "free" driver restricts the modem to 33k baud - 56k is only possible with the commerical driver.
