One thing I can think of is the wrapper script for pbbuttonsd, it used to be /etc/power/pwrctl{,-local} and is now /etc/power/pwrctl-wrapper; I remember the upgrade didn't go flawless here, so maybe there's something in there that does something wrong on wakeup which causes further sleep-wake-cycles to fail.
