I believe that there was a recent post about this problem.
IIRC the solution is to 'touch arch/ppc/boot/images/vmlinux.coff'.
cp: cannot stat `arch/ppc/boot/images/vmlinux.coff': No such file or

The .coff doesn't exist...
I compile it debian way.
