No, the parents are legimate processes (mozilla and ogg123). They just fork (or start a new thread). With mozilla, you can see a process tree here: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237479 > Of course, bugs in the kernel's signal code could force the parent > to not recognize it's child's exit, thus the child would become a > zombie... The problem occurs here with kernel 2.4.18 (and is 100% reproducible), but I didn't notice it with kernel 2.4.25. That's why I'm thinking it is a kernel problem, but this may be a coincidence. I'd like to know if I should report a bug against the 2.4.18 kernel image or if I should reopen bug 235538 (/usr/bin/ogg123: ogg123 leaves zombies when playing several files) that I probably closed too early. -- Vincent Lefèvre <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - Web: <http://www.vinc17.org/> 100% validated (X)HTML - Acorn / RISC OS / ARM, free software, YP17, Championnat International des Jeux Mathématiques et Logiques, etc. Work: CR INRIA - computer arithmetic / SPACES project at LORIA
