No, it is a compile time switch, turned off by default. From the
changelog:
2003-11-13 0.5.6-1
* configure flag --with-pmud added to decide
at compile time to use pmud or not.
* option 'replace_pmud' removed. pmud support
have to compiled in now. Default is compiling
without pmud support.
