Build the accelerated driver for your graphics card into the kernel, by setting CONFIG_FB, CONFIG_FB_OF (as a fallback), and CONFIG_FB_ATY to y. You can discard all the other framebuffer drivers. Pass video=atyfb to the kernel in the command line. If it doesn't work out of the box, play around with different settings of the framebuffer parameters.
