Hmm... Probably it's coincidence, because I can't get to 800x600 nor 640x480 with Ctrl Alt +.
I'm not near my mac now (i'm at work), but I remember X rejected 800x600 and 640x480 even when I explictly defined it as a wanted resolution in XF86Config-4... I didn't find a place with the precise refresh rates for imac monitor, i copied it from another config file that I've found on net...
