As I know you need to Patch the Kernel driver...
The Monitor mode is not available in the default kernel driver for
Orinoco /
Airport Cards.
Look at the Airsnort page, for a RF Mode Patch ...

BTW what are kismet and MacStumbler?
MacStumbler is kismet for Mac OS X :) little bit more graphical... ;)
