PIC issues usually only manifest at runtime on powerpc, when the dynamic linker tries to resolve the symbols. > Has the X bug been reported somewhere already? It's not a bug per se, upstream used to build these libraries without -fPIC on purpose (they only changed their mind when they realized non-PIC code would forbid prelinking even on i386...).
