Hi, for the little introduction story. I'm trying to validate the use of an external firewire harddrive, for one of our scientist here in pasteur.
I ask me if it could plug and use his external 30Gb Lacie firewire drive on his PB-G4 under linux. I've tell him, let me try on my PB-G3 before formating your powerbook. Know the problem. I've grabed the last Ben's Kernel sources, compiled the fresh kernel building ieee1394, ohci1394, sbp2 (and related i2c bit-padding interface) as modules. installed everything, rebooted everything went OK yoko:~ > uname -a Linux yoko 2.4.20-pre9-ben0 #1 Wed Oct 9 13:25:33 CEST 2002 ppc unknown plugged the disk added ohci1394 and ther is what I got yoko:~ > sudo modprobe ohci1394 ohci1394: $Rev: 555 $ Ben Collins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ohci1394_0: Unexpected PCI resource length of 1000! ohci1394_0: OHCI-1394 1.0 (PCI): IRQ=[40] MMIO=[f5000000-f5000800] Max Packet=[2048] yoko:~ > ieee1394: Node 00:1023 has non-standard ROM format (0 quads), cannot parse lsmod gives me yoko:~ > lsmod Module Size Used by Not tainted ohci1394 20036 0 (unused) ieee1394 35608 0 [sbp2 ohci1394] when I try to load sbp2, the shell stay stucked whith the following message yoko:~ > sudo modprobe sbp2 ieee1394: sbp2: Logged into SBP-2 device Humm I guess I miss something but while RTFMing I did see what what's the buggy point in my howto understanding ??
