Hi all,
Thanks for all the testing of my recent patched version. Good to hear that it works.. Dirk: with respect to your question >Does that mean that I should undo the powerpc conditional which removes >those two flags, but can leave them for everything else? I made (on purpose) no explicit recommendation about this in my earlier mail, but only outlined my understanding of the level of unstability you would get, because I don't quite know how much unstability you want in a Debian unstable branch. BUT based on the tests by Stephen and Dieter I now recommend that in the 2.4.7-7 unstable version, the -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE flags are enabled on all platforms including powerpc, because without them writing a >2GB archive should not work (according to my limited understanding so far of the large file support documentation). The next thing on my todo list is to close-read the large file documentation which I dug up, and then see if more changes to afio are needed. The goal is to create a source code base for which I know definately that afio will behave correctly under the various possible compile options. Though this becomes more of a non-linux and ancient-linux support issue than a powerpc support issue. Cheers, Koen.
