debian version is not the same as kernel version. You are running debian potato, which is version 2.2. the kernel you are running is given by uname -a > which one is it ? do i care ? The biggest difference I noticed on oldWorlds using the 2.4 kernel, was that the video=ofonly boot argument might need to be changed (removed).
