I connect at home to an ethernet that connects to the net through a 56k line. I also don't have a cdrom drive for my powermac, so I just install the base from floppy and apt-get everything else. Generally, if you get the downloads started before you go to bed, when you wake up you're ready to configure the new packages. I actually do this every couple of nights, since I'm using sid.
