On newer planes, yes. Older planes have unshielded cables running the length of the plane. Airlines fly some pretty old planes. Sometimes you get a plane that is over 20 years old. Also note that you're inside a big reflective tube, and that a cell phone will use extra transmit power when it has trouble communicating.
