iMAC problem: ATI Rage128 Pro TR (AGP) and XFree 4.1.0 ======================================================
Hello debian-ppc folks, 2 days ago I've successfully installed Debian 3.0 aka 'woody' from Internet on my 'newpmac' iMAC (CPU:750CX @ 500MHz). Everything worked fine, the onlz problem I've encountered was Debian's base-config witch goes in loop, but that's another problem treated in another issue. After installing the base system and some software I've also installed xfree 4.1.0-16, I've configured it and here my little problems started. On my system I've got an ATI Rage128 Pro TR (AGP) with 16 MB RAM onboad so I've first configured Xfree with the 'r128' then with the 'ati', and also with 'atimisc' drivers but XF doesn't recongnize my graphic board: (EE) No devices detected. So i switched to the XF 'fbdriver' witch works in 8 bit depth when the 'ofonly' kernel fb driver is runing. When I run the 'aty128fb' kernel fb driver with the yaboot.conf entry: append="video=aty128fb:" the X server recognizes 640x480 and 800x600 display modes in various depths but I only see a completly black screen. Maybe someone else has allready experienced my same troubles and could give me some tips to solve this problem, I actually come from the i386 world and have this way not much experience with MACs, but wanna learn :) Thanks for any help, have a nice time, folks ! - Ivo -- »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« Ivo Marino [EMAIL PROTECTED] UN*X Developer, running Debian GNU/Linux irc.OpenProjects.net #debian http://eimbox.org/~eim http://eimbox.org »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« »« -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
