Debian also provides methods for compiling your own packages from source. Simply add deb-src lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list, for example deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free and use `apt-get build-dep <package>; apt-get -b source <package>' to build your own .debs of whatever package you desire.
