That's correct. There's no stable hfs+ driver for the Linux kernel, though the userland hfsplusutils seem to work just fine. There's a work-in-progress kernel driver at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-hfsplus/ I don't know much about the status, but it looks like development is still progressing, and I'm sure the authors would appreciate any help.
