Greetings,
Thank you, Daniel, for uploading this new kernel-image package. [I'd
roll my own from source, but on my 160 MHz 603e, that takes many
hours... Also, I like to test the packaged binaries for those who don't
build from source for various other reasons.]
Anyway. I have a StarMax 3000/160 with built-in Mach64 VT and a PCI
MacPicasso (Cirrus Logic GD-5480), the latter of which I'd like to use
since my monitor doesn't have a VGA connector for the former, and it has
four times the VRAM.
Unfortunately, I can't get it to boot into offb from bootx, where
2.4.8-powerpc has been working just fine with video=ofonly (i.e. with
the "no video driver" box in bootx checked). I've also tried
video=offb: and "video=offb: video=atyfb:", the latter of which puts fb0
on the Mach64 and still nothing on the MacPicasso.
Here's what /var/log/messages has to say under 2.4.8, with a line of
context on each side:
Oct 30 11:48:58 h00e029185436 kernel: devfs: boot_options: 0x0
Oct 30 11:48:58 h00e029185436 kernel: MacOS display is /bandit/MacPicasso540
Oct 30 11:48:58 h00e029185436 kernel: Using unsupported 1600x1200

Oct 30 11:48:58 h00e029185436 kernel: fb0: Open Firmware frame buffer

Oct 30 11:48:58 h00e029185436 kernel: input0: Macintosh mouse button

And under 2.4.12 with video=offb: video=atyfb:
Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: devfs: boot_options: 0x0
Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: atyfb: mach64VTA4 (ATI264VT)

Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: atyfb: monitor sense=51e, mode 7
Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: Console: switching to colour frame

Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: fb0: ATY Mach64 frame buffer
device on PCI
Oct 30 11:38:20 h00e029185436 kernel: input0: Macintosh mouse button
emulation
And under 2.4.12 wth video=offb: or video=ofonly
Oct 30 11:30:30 h00e029185436 kernel: devfs: boot_options: 0x0
Oct 30 11:30:30 h00e029185436 kernel: input0: Macintosh mouse button
emulation
That is, nothing at all! It's as if offb is not even compiled in, but
% grep OF /boot/config-2.4.12-powerpc
CONFIG_FB_OF=y
(among others)
Does anyone have offb working with this kernel-image?
I know that clgenfb does *not* work with this card for a couple of
reasons: it thinks there is just 1 MB VRAM, and a few register settings
seem to be wrong. Someday when I have a few days with nothing to do I
may work on this more, but for now, BootX and offb meet my needs -- if
the kernel supports it. :-)
