I think it can lockup or not depending more on random matters than the actual presence of -dummy (I may be wrong here). Some people have it lockup with dummy. When you enable -dummy, the behaviour can be different from writer to writer. Some have different timing conditions and behave differently at the "fixup" stage at the end of the writing if they are in dummy mode. Ben.
