The first time they do it, I do all the stuff necessary to read it, e.g. switching to the attachment viewer, saving the file, downloading it to the local machine I am sitting in front of at the moment and starting up a browser. Usually the people in my surrounding react positively if I tell them kindly to change their settings. Next time the e-mails come as plain text or with both types of format. I do this only for e-mails from friends or my working place, but don't waste my time with html-formatted e-mails between the hundred per day from the debian lists.
