On my machine, it's /dev/cua/0. But I'm using 2.4 with devfs. Maybe you could try "dmesg | grep -i modem"? On my system, this prints: tty00 at 0xc9804020 (irq = 22) is a Z8530 ESCC (cobalt modem)
