Well, here's how I got it to work - not sure if it's the most efficient way, but it works! Parts of it is described at http://linuxppc.org/documentation/xf4/ Install the Xfree86-4 debs from unstable download xfree86-4 source from xfree86.org delete the xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86 directory replace it with /xfree86 from Ani's rsync tree at linuxppc.org do a 'make World' inside the xc directory (takes hrs on my PBG3) do a 'make install' inside the following directories: xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/fbdevhw xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati So now, you're using the X4 debs with the ati drivers from source startx! You'll need to keep track of what packages are being upgraded from now on. If apt-get upgrade says it wants to upgrade X stuff, let it, but then go into those 2 directories mentioned above and do make install again, to use your drivers. I'm not sure how long this will be necessary - anyone know? Again, this is just the way I do it, so I'd be interested to hear ways that work better.
