G3 keyboard

I try to set key bar "|" on my keymap that I've configured in this folder: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh/it where "it" is the file containing the config. running with X, I've tried in any way. What's the better way to configure my keyboard under X ? I've a G3 (B&W) with a keyboard without numeric keypad.
