hello, i've just got a mac clone - umax apus 2000 (aka c500). now, got a debian on it as well :) the installation was pretty trivial (surprise :)).
but now, i want to have my own kernel. i've tried compiling 2.2.14, 2.3.51, linux-pmac-devel and -stable from linuxcare. no luck :( i mean, the compilation was successful. no errors till the end, i got nice vmlinux, copied it to "linux kernels" in "system folder", so i can choose it in bootx. but then, every time i boot from my kernel, i got something like: Serial driver version 4.92 (2000-1-27) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI enabled Machine check in kernel mode. Caused by (from SRR1=41030): Transfer error ack signal NIP: C00ABCCC XER: 00000000 LR: C00B0AB4 REGS: c02f1cc0 TRAP: 0200 MSR: 00041030 EE: 0 PR: 0 FP: 0 ME: 1 IR/DR: 11 TASK = c02f0000[1] 'swapper' Last syscall: 120 last math 00000000 last altivec 00000000 GPR00: ( a lot GPR08: of GPR16: numers GPR24: here ) Call backtrace: 017F8976 C01BB88C C01BA378 C01BBB80 C01B8898 C01B6C94 C01AA730 C01AA774 C00038C0 C0008894 Kernel panic: machine check. what now? the line with "task" differs a bit with different kernels, but there's always "swapper" (afair). do i miss somethink here? some magic trick to make the compiled kernel working? or maybe there's an option in the kernel that must be checked but i missed it somehow? or something? :/ please tell me, i badly want sound and ipv6 (it's not compiled in the 2.2.12 i got after installation). tfh, m.m. -- use gnus not guns!
