Yes, a lot of work is to be done but it isn't as bad as it might seem. If you
checked out the the english port status page at www.debian.org/ports/powerpc you
should probably be told that that page is ridiculously out of date. The german
version of that page on the other hand is more up to date. According to that
page, 80% (not 50%) of the packages are already compiled.
