A large portion - by no means all, but a fairly large portion - of the
crashes in common programs can be fixed by recompiling with gcc.  Where
the packages in binary-powerpc originally built with egcs?

mesg, for instance, no longer aborts.  dselect does not immediately
segfault, but after choosing just about anything on the menu it generates
illegal instruction errors.  Still, it's an improvement.
