I don't recall all the details, but if you're running the Rage 128, yes you have to set the default depth to 16 to get accel.
This is overkill 'cause a lot of these packages are installed as deps but look at the top of http://bulma.net/body.phtml?nIdNoticia=2011&nIdPage=3 to get a thorough look at getting accel going.
