You need more infos. lspci is useless, but the device-tree might be useful. The type of "chipset" can be broken down more depending on the bus type: apple's davbus (awacs, burgundy, screamer) and i2s (daca, tumbler, snapper, and anything more recent where apple doesn't bother putting names anymore). The real problem is with the recent stuff though. For example, I can't yet find what sound codec is used on the Mini and I suspect it might be a non-programmable fixed function D->A converter (which means no HW volume control ...). The G5s have a tas3004 (snapper) _PLUS_ a second codec for the digital stuff (which itself exist in at least 3 models, at least darwin has drivers for 3 versions of it).
