pbbuttonsd, Fn keys

I am using pbbuttonsd, and the F1-F5 keys work as they should.
However, 

1. I cannot use Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc to switch to a text console - is it
because of pbbuttonsd?

2. I would prefer to use Fn-F1 etc instead and not have the F1-F5 keys
captured.

Is this possible?
