OK- Messed around most all day with this. To recap:
Mostly stock Woody distro on Pismo laptop. apt-get'd CUPS and installed. Netatalk previously installed. LaserJet 2100 TN with JetDirect 600 3110a. Found Thomas Kaiser's pap backend script, placed in /usr/lib/cups/backend and made executable. lpinfo -v shows pap as a device, along with my printer. Used Lynx <http://localhost:631/admin> to setup LaserJet. recogizes pap and provides <pap://%2a/PET/LaserWriter> as a choice in the "add printer" sequence. Selected 'HP' as model/device and the LaserJet .ppd that comes with CUPs as .ppd: 'HP LaserJet Series CUPS v1.1 (en)'. I've rebooted, show presumably CUPS has restarted. Of course, can't get anything to print. I can 'pap -p PET test.txt' and get a printout. I can 'lp -d PET test.txt' and see the job created, but it's listed as cancelled after a while. . . . . . . . . . . . . . So it seems that I can print via pap/netatalk and can put a print job in a CUPS queue via lp. But I'm unclear what in between in giving me trouble. Any thoughts?
