so it shouldn't a problem for blender

Ok. I believe you should retitle the bug, so others can give you a more accurate help. This bug appears to be a radeon specific issue, please try to let that clear in the bug title.

What is next to prevent blender crashing X-servers?

I could reproduce this bug in a:
motherboard : PowerMac1,1 MacRISC Power Macintosh
detected as : 66 (Blue&White G3)
which has an Ati Radeon video card. Thanks to Daniel Dalto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for letting me crash his Xserver several times. :)

I tried setting the RADEON_NO_VTXFMT environment variable, as mentioned in #273651, and it worked.

Try executing:
RADEON_NO_VTXFMT=1 blender
And hopefully this should work.

There is also a mention of the LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT environment variable in that report too. You could try this if the other variable does not help you.

I believe this bug should be merged with #273651, with #234062.
So I'm CCing this mail to blender maintainer so he can do the merge.

Thanks for the info.
