Hi, I also think this "should" might as well be changed into a "must" these days, because the ambiguity is allowing corner cases - I recently heard that mcollective doesn't support a "restart" action, rather it does "stop" then "start" when you tell it to restart something. Arguably this is simply a bug in that software, but we should be able to tell people - you can rely on all of these actions being there on all of our init scripts.
(Certainly if the same argument is being made for "you can rely on debian/rules being a makefile", I fail to see the point of not doing the same here.) -- 2.
