Should policy require, or at least strongly recommend, that: 1. Each package that create _one_ or more configuration file in /etc should put them in a dedicated directory, for example as /etc/sourceName/. That directory might be a natural place for user modifications, breaking a long conf file when the package mature and the like. 2. Each package that create _one_ or more log file in /var/log should put them in a dedicated directory, for example as /var/log/SourceName/. Even one log file will probably turn, with time, to 4 or 5 because of rotation. ?
The above might make the management of /etc and /var/log easier. The verification of that might be automated by lintian like utilities. Perhaps policy should recommend that any system directory with more then 30 entries should be divided to sub directories? ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
