There's been a long standing performance issue of using xfonts-wqy due to compression. As Fang Qianqian <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> pointed out, the Debian Policy[1] requires pcf to be gzipped. However, due to the huge set of Chinese characters, the compression brings serious performance issue as pointed out in bug #384149[2]. There is intention to ship such fonts ungzipped, which should alleviate the situatio. Due to the complication with Debian Policy, we think it'd better to have a discussion in debian-devel and debian-policy mailing lists for a suggestion.
