Hello! Kind of disclaimer first: I have no idea if I am sending to the right list. I'd like to discuss changes to some paragraphs of the Debian Developers Reference wich are unclear in my opinion.
Until today I thought I have to send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or submit a bug against ftp.debian.org if one of my packages migrates from contrib to main. I thought so because I have read the following (out of dev-ref, section 5.1.7.1): > To alter the actual section that a package is put in, you need to first > make sure that the debian/control in your package is accurate. Next, > send an email [EMAIL PROTECTED] or submit a bug against > ftp.debian.org requesting that the section or priority for your package > be changed from the old section or priority to the new one. Be sure to > explain your reasoning. Possibly the word "section" does not refer to "contrib" and "main", but I think this is not very clear. If you want to read the whole section, here is a link for your convenience: http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-upload-notification Section "5.5.1 Moving packages" explains the procedure better. The word "section" is used here as I understood it in the paragraphs above. It is used to refer to "non-free", "main" and "contrib". The word "subsection" is used to refer to e.g. "devel", "admin". IMHO section 5.1.7.1 should be enhanced to make clear there are two possibilities: A) User changes subsection: send email or submit bug against ftp.debian.org B) User changes section: refer to 5.5.1 In general the usage of words like "section" and "subsection" should be uniform along the Developers Reference. I didn't check if it is yet, but would be willing to spend some time here. Feedback appreciated. Thanks!
