I am aware that joeyh removed the code from debhelper to support the links and the discussion seemed to indicate that we felt the compatibility links were no longer required.
Is this the standing of policy as well? I find people wanting lintian to not report the warning on their package however my usual stance is that I try to stay in step with policy.
