Ack. You are right. This is apparently all too confusing to my little brain. Sorry. So, while Steve Robbin's most recently proposed wording would lead to correct maintainer scripts, it is needlessly restrictive, and would (possibly) lead to technically acceptable scripts being in violation of policy, and so I object. His (non-proposed) paragraph: However, the postrm script must not call ldconfig if invoked with the argument "upgrade", "failed-upgrade", or "disappear". The preinst script must not call ldconfig if invoked with the argument "abort-upgrade". seems accurate and I don't think it's particularly "longwinded and fairly confusing." Steve Greenland
