You are being too hard on yourself. Putting together a proposal
that gathers seconds is non trivial; one has to convince people of
the rationale, come up with the language that is acceptable to folks
(not too general, and not to picayune).
A synopsis of the arguments, stating both pro' and cons' may
garner the debate and support you are looking for. I'll look into the
bug history and see what I think of the issue.
