Package: debian-policy Version: 3.2.1.0 I have coded a partial solution to this problem before I read this bug. it's not as nice as a start-rc.d script, but it IS simpler (OTH, it requires more code to be added in the postinst scripts, and it's a less generic solution).
I can, however, write a start-rc.d script which implements the functionality of my non-start-rc.d solution. It will be more complex code-wise, but all the init script policy would need to require is that start-rc.d is always used instead of /etc/init.d/script. Which one does you people feel is the better technical solution? A (somewhat complex) start-rc.d script, or policy mandating that packages call an initscriptquery script to verify if they are allowed to /etc/init.d/script start or not? I have already put some thought on the interface for start-rc.d, and could write a sample implementation for sysv, if you feel it's better than the initscriptquery stuff I've already sent to debian-devel. -- System Information Debian Release: woody Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux godzillah.rivendell.sol 2.2.17 #1 Wed Sep 6 17:08:58 BRT 2000 i586 Versions of packages debian-policy depends on: ii fileutils 4.0z-2 GNU file management utilities. -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
