A mailing list is a computer file in a mail server, or (alternatively) an email address that delivers mail to multiple human recipients. It cannot fix bugs, it cannot maintain software, it cannot debate technical points. I suggest you replace "a mailing list" with "a group of people reachable from a common email address, such as a mailing list". Yes, this is nitpicking.
