I think it is both undesirable and unnecessary, neither by themselves sufficient for a formal objection perhaps, but together very much objectionable. Furthermore, it is clear that the proposal was not at all serious, but a measure intended only to buy time. A serious proposal should provide the implementation and timing for the transition to take place, and not defer such decisions to some future time. Anyhow, it seems it may be a moot point anyhow, since Wichert has decided to put the transitional question in the hands of the Technical Committee. I will defer to the decision which will be made, in the meantime, I will not move any packages currently in /usr/doc to /usr/share/doc (nor have I done so since the request was posted to devel-announce), nor move my packages currently in /usr/share/doc back to /usr/doc.
