Someone should pick up dinstall, implement it and provide Guy with an
appropriaate patch.

Hmm, I object to "in the meantime" since this ensures that this feature
won't get implemented within the next n months since the people who want
to see it will be happy with an interim solution.
Santiago, if you have some spare time, I believe it's better if you could
pick up dinstall and implement the needed features.
