The Standards-Version field of each newly uploaded package should always be changed, in theory, to match the current debian-policy package (assuming the maintainer have actually read it, of course). The intention of Christian, I think, was precisely not to have to change the Standards-Version field so often, by specifying only the first three digits of it. I think this makes sense, since there would not be so many different Standards-Version fields around for each new debian-policy minor release. Also, automatic building packages like debmake or debhelper would not have to be updated so often to match current policy. > look at the hello package, and see how many letters the standards > version specifies. The hello package has not been updated for ages, and therefore it is a bad example to know how this policy should be applied, IMO. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3ia Charset: latin1 iQCVAgUBNU3XOSqK7IlOjMLFAQEBPwP/f2NmViJryR8qLwA0CrxKlbrC3YKYre4P IhKG7ezLMn5IcW8aoCVO5QdZC4pcKkWMTT8WkQsdUSfILKDoqvrlG4KnHRJ8x94v P7vT3InLI+1twqdjmBwfx33jDIhSiJT3JHHZr47JADJHRdUWhIELtaWls3SCk2dK w94o5WoZx8k= =JvYR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
