I'm afraid I think this is a stunningly bad idea. We already have a major incremental upgrade compatibility problem between 1.3 and 2.0, which we're still having major problems sorting out and which will delay the release of 2.0. Instead of rushing headlong into changes we should make sure that we have an orderly transition plan which doesn't make old and new packages incompatible. Ian.
