Indeed, while it was an issue back when I posted it in 2005: Package: cmus Version: 2.5.0-7+b1 ⋮ Versions of packages cmus recommends: ii cmus-plugin-ffmpeg 2.5.0-7+b1 I'm not sure the magic bug-tracker incantation to close this, but it's now appears to be fixed in the most recent version: $ dpkg-query -W 'cmus*' cmus 2.7.1+git20160225-1+b2 cmus-plugin-ffmpeg 2.7.1+git20160225-1+b2 where the same file no longer crashes cmus/cmus-plugin-ffmpeg.
