Hi, I think it may be related to the fact that amsynth blocks on snd_seq_event_input instead of using some form of polling mechanism, as show in e.g.: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/MIDI-HOWTO-9.html .
Right now it tries to interrupt it with pthread_kill, but I'm not so sure this actually works correctly in alsa.
