in fact, this can already be done: Package: foo Architecture: any Version: 5.25-3+b1 Provides: foo (= 5.25-3) This is possible since fixing of bug #7330 in dpkg 1.17.11 and bug #758153 in apt 1.0.7. So this should work in Jessie. cheers, josch
