Yes, I know. But as Raphaël alluded to; because I want to get an updated version into wheezy, I also wanted to limit the upstream changes in the package so as to increase the chances that it will be accepted into wheezy. I feel (both as the package maintainer and as part of upstream) that this combination of the packaging and upstream changes are the necessary next step in increasing the quality of the package in wheezy without trying to do too much at one time.
