Usually, the library version information is specified by adding -version-info <cur>:<rev>:<age> to LDFLAGS. So, in your case, adding libctapimkt_la_LDFLAGS = $(AM_LDFLAGS) -version-info @GENERIC_LIBRARY_VERSION@ should do the trick (haven't checked that, though).
