Hello, I contacted both Ben Pfaff (autoconf) and Eric Dorland (automake). Ben is busy right now, but Eric reviewed the package and replied on June 8th. At that point, I had already changed the autotools-idl package quite a bit, I split it up into two new packages and I worked on all points raised by Bernhard Link from the mentors-list. So Eric reviewed an old version unfortunately (I probably didn't make it clear enough that new versions are available). The technical points raised by him are not present in the newer versions. On a general note though, Eric believes that at least the automake portion should not be made a separate package but be integrated into the FSF version of automake. He is the Debian automake maintainer, so he knows about automake. Still I don't see why a separate package cannot be used as a stopgap, either until the FSF-upstream inclusion happens or in case it does not happen. Additionally, I am not the original author of autoconf-orb and automake-idl, so I don't think it is my place to push it into the FSF code proper. For example, I don't hold the copyright to any of the code, and I think the FSF wants that assigned to them, don't they? If there is any requests of change to the packages or other suggestions on how to proceed, please let me know.
